Implantology

1What is an implant?
A dental implant is an organic or artificial material that is set into the jawbone. Implants assume the functions of an artificial tooth root. They are well accepted by the bone and the surrounding tissues. Together, implant and bone form a base unit for the tooth crown (the new tooth). In many cases, implantation is the only method that enables reasonable prosthetic restoration and thereby improves quality of life.

When does it make sense to place an implant?
  • Replacement of individual missing teeth with healthy neighboring teeth
  • Prostheses stabilized with implants
  • To install permanently fixed dentures if several teeth are missing
When does it not make sense to place implants?
  • In patients with diseases of the jawbone and gingiva
  • In patients with poor salivary flow (xerostomia)
  • If you are a smoker: According to statistics, the failure rate of implantation for smokers is between 3 and 30 per cent. The risk is even higher for interventions involving sinus lift or bone augmentation.
To determine whether an implant is a viable solution for you, just call and set up an appointment with us. We would be happy to take the time for a detailed consultation with you.

Costs and insurance services
With a few exceptions, implants are not subsidized or financed by the statutory health insurance (GKV). The GKV has fixed rates for standard treatments. This only covers 50% of the costs a medically indicated solution would entail. The benefits paid increase if the patient's "Bonusheft" (record of medical check-ups) is complied with. The higher the quality of the dental work, the higher the share of the cost to be borne by the patients themselves.

Private supplemental insurance can cushion a large proportion of these expenses. Depending on the rate, supplemental insurance covers 75% to 80% of the costs. The maintenance of high-quality dental prostheses is also subsidized by supplemental insurance.

The implant treatment is included in the GOZ (dentist's schedule of fees). Before beginning implant therapy, you should submit a treatment plan and a budget to your insurance company. We will, of course, be happy to advise you in detail about the costs and insurance services applicable to your individual case.
23D implant planning
The use of digital volume tomography (DVT) enables precise diagnosis and planning with low radiation exposure. Guided by the high precision of a 3D scan using planning software, the dentist can virtually place implants on the screen: the result is optimized implant position, implant size, spatial utilization and axial inclination.

Advantages of 3D implant planning
In many cases, bone augmentation can be avoided by using precise axial and positional planning. Should bone augmentation still be necessary, it can be planned far more precisely in 3D and thereby reduce both the costs and extent of surgery. The risk of injury to any surrounding anatomical structures (e.g. mandibular nerve, maxillary sinus, bone perforations) is reduced and the size of the incision minimized. This leads to a minimally invasive, easier, faster and less complicated surgical procedure and thus to a much more pleasant healing process for the patient.

The advantages of computed tomography (CT)

  • The "Bio CAD system" allows your dentist to design personalized prosthetic reconstructions for teeth and implants in a virtual environment. This achieves a precision of five microns when shaping crowns from biological materials, like zirconium and ceramic.
  • Bone augmentation using biologically integrated materials after prior planning on a CT scan
  • Immediate, same-day placement of implants and dentures
3Bone augmentation
Bone augmentation
After bone resorption due to tooth loss or the extraction, new bone has to be formed before implants can be placed. We use different materials for bone augmentation, such as:

  • Autologous bone (the patient's own bone from the chin, or the iliac crest)
  • Allogeneic bone (cadaver bone)
  • Xenogenic materials (from bovine or porcine sources)
  • Membranes (of synthetic or animal origin)
  • Synthetic materials
Bone can be augmented laterally or vertically..
4Immediate implant placement
Course of treatment:

  • Examination and consultation
  • Aesthetic or virtual planning
  • Extraction of the tooth/teeth and implantation with closed healing
  • After six months, the implant is exposed and the crown or denture placed
  • Period of treatment: Approximately six months
5Immediate implant placement, with immediate loading
Course of treatment:

  • Examination and consultation
  • Aesthetic or virtual planning
  • Wax-up and fabrication of the provisional at an early stage
  • Extraction of tooth/teeth + implantation and insertion of the provisional restoration (immediate loading)

Periodontology

1What is periodontitis?
Periodontitis is the most common condition affecting the periodontium. Periodontal problems are triggered by stubbornly persistent bacteria that cause chronic inflammation in secluded corners of the oral cavity and gingival pockets. This permanent inflammation usually goes unnoticed by most sufferers. Undetected and untreated, the bacteria proliferate in the periodontal pockets and destroy the periodontium, bone and gums. If untreated, this can lead to teeth loosening or even loss.

Note: 60% of all adults over 40 suffer from this disease, although most of them do not know it.

The dangers of periodontitis
As clinical studies have shown, bacterial inflammation in the periodontal pockets has a decisive impact on a variety of serious general diseases: for example, patients suffering from periodontal disease have been proven to have a significantly higher risk of heart attack or stroke. Similarly, the likelihood that pregnant women will suffer a miscarriage or premature delivery increases markedly with periodontitis.

Treatment
We remove bacteria and plaque from the roots surfaces of the teeth and the periodontal pockets. After a prophylactic gum treatment, you should practice preventive dentistry for the rest of your life. Just ask us how.
Our special interest also focuses on gingival aesthetics. In this specialty, we use regenerative methods and plastic surgical methods to optimize the uniformity of the gingiva. Please feel free to contact us if you have asymmetrical or receding gums to find out whether there is a sensible and feasible treatment option available for you.
What you should know: Good personal oral hygiene alone cannot stop progressive periodontitis.

Oral surgery

1Oral surgery is a branch of dentistry and includes:
  • Surgical extractions
  • Bone augmentation
  • Wisdom tooth extraction

We also discuss with you in detail whether operations will be performed under general anesthesia or analog sedation. We provide you with detailed information about the intervention in advance.
You suffer from anxiety? Click here to find out more about our anxiety treatment.
2Surgical extractions
What is an extraction?
In medicine, the surgical removal of a tooth is called extraction. This surgical procedure can also injury the gingiva.
Why is an extraction necessary?
There can be several reasons, such as:

  • Loose tooth
  • Narrow jaw
  • Inflammation
  • Broken tooth
  • etc.
3Bone augmentation
When is bone augmentation necessary?
If teeth are missing, the jawbone is no longer subject to counterforces and regresses over time. In order to provide a stable purchase for the implants, new bone must be generated. We use different materials for this purpose, such as:

  • Autologous bone (the patient's own bone from the chin or iliac crest)
  • Allogeneic bone (cadaver bone)
  • Xenogenic materials (from bovine or porcine sources)
  • Membranes (of synthetic or animal origin)
  • Synthetic materials

Bone can be augmented laterally or vertically.
4Wisdom tooth extraction
What are wisdom teeth?
Wisdom teeth are the posterior-most molars. Since they are the last teeth to erupt, these molars do not always have sufficient space in the jaw and either remain stuck in the jawbone or grow out crooked. They can exert pressure on the other teeth and destroy the neighboring dentition.

Possible consequences

  • Displaced teeth (dental caries develops more rapidly)
  • Painful inflammation
  • Facial pain
  • Locked jaw problems
  • Difficulty swallowing
At Palti Dental Center, you can have your wisdom teeth extracted under general anesthesia or by analog sedation. We provide you with detailed information about these measures in advance.

Aesthetic dentistry

1What is aesthetic dentistry?
"Aesthetic dentistry" is the branch of dentistry concerned with the reconstruction or creation of beauty for the oral and maxillofacial environment. This includes but is not limited to "invisible" restorations of the teeth or gingiva surrounding the anterior teeth. Sometimes, we just skillfully "cover up" of Mother Nature's shortcomings.

Costs
Both statutory and private health insurance companies show considerable resistance to paying for aesthetic restorations, because they perceive themselves as only being responsible for "medically necessary curative treatment".
2All-ceramic restorations
Inlays, crowns and bridges which replace missing teeth are types of all-ceramic restorations. They produce aesthetically pleasing results.

Benefits
Biologically compatible, all-ceramic restorations meet the highest aesthetic medical standards and restore symmetry and naturalness like no other material.
3Wax-ups and aesthetic try-in
What is a wax-up?
For restorations with veneers or all-ceramic crowns, your teeth will first be cast in wax. This procedure is called a "wax-up". The wax cast gives an impression what your new teeth will look like. The try-in takes place during a separate session.

The dentition's shape and position can now be readjusted before our affiliated dental lab fabricates your final restorations.
4Veneers
What are veneers?
Veneers are the right choice whenever the color, shape, position or length of teeth need to be modified. These materials are made up to wafer-thin ceramic scales that are bonded onto the surface of natural teeth. Veneers are precision-made by the dental technician according to the impression created by the dentist and in accordance with the patient's wishes.

Benefits:
Color and surface structure can be replicated best with modern ceramic materials and so precisely that are indistinguishable from one's natural teeth. Veneers are just half a millimeter thick, but they last for years and remain as beautiful as they were on the very first day. Provided they are well-maintained, veneers remain stable-, color- and wear-resistant even after years.
5Non prep Veneers
What are no-prep veneers?
No-prep veneers are restorations made with "œno-preparation", i.e. the tooth is not etched or ground as part of the treatment (as is the case with "normal veneers"). Only in rare cases is a minimum grinding of the tooth substance required.

Benefits
The treatment is quick and painless.

Application options

  • Closing anterior spaces
  • Tooth contouring
  • Teeth whitening
  • Teeth enlargement
  • Aesthetic optimization of dentition

Endodontics

1What is endodontics?
Endodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with treating teeth "from the inside", i.e. an affected nerve.

Treatment
In cases where a diseased nerve has to be removed, the entire canal inside the tooth is cleaned out, disinfected and then sealed off completely with a root filling.

Tip:Early detection increases the chances for success in root canal treatment

Treatment methods
We offer a range of modern methods in this sector, which are based either on electromechanical, chemical, ultrasonic or sonic treatment of the root canal. In many cases, electronic measurement of the root canal length obviates many of the x-rays which would otherwise be required. For root canal inserts and root filling materials, we use only proven and well-tolerated materials, the biological compatibility of which has been established for decades.

Orthodontics

1What is orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with eliminating malocclusion of dentofacial structures.

At Palti Dental Center we have the possibility for the dental treatment of young people and adults with Clear Aligner.
2What is a Clear Aligner?
Clear Aligner is an almost invisible splint concept for correcting orthodontic problems. These transparent splints are mainly used in adults.

Benefits
The Clear Aligner retains its outward appearance. This transparent splint is gentle on the gingiva because it is smooth and does not require any screws, brackets or clamps.

Functional analysis

1What is a functional analysis?
A functional analysis provides information on the functional status of the chewing system. Even the smallest changes in the chewing musculature, in the teeth, the jaw muscle or the mandible joint can cause functional malfunctions, such as:

  • Muscular pains
  • Chronic tension
  • Headaches
  • Cracking sounds in the mandibular joint
  • Pain in the mandibular joint
  • Tinnitus
  • Grinding of the teeth
  • Pain in the neck / shoulder area
  • Pain while chewing
  • Pain when moving the lower jaw
  • Problems opening the mouth

Treatment

In modern dentistry procedures have been developed to determine the root causes. A distinction is made between the manual functional analysis and instrumental functional analysis.
2What is manual functional analysis?
In a manual functional analysis, examinations are conducted without the use of technical aids. The dentist examines your teeth, jaw bone, mandibular joint and masticatory muscles, but also your head and spine.

Ease of movement, load bearing capacity, sensitivity, pain, and jaw closure all play an important role in this analysis. Sounds caused by movements of structures (jaw, muscles, etc. ) are also evaluated.

Diagnosis
The analysis helps reveal any malalignment of teeth or jaws that might also be associated with headaches and teeth grinding at night.
Instrument-based functional analysis can also be conducted.
Our practice uses the ARCUSdigma 3-D navigator to measure movement and occlusion with even greater precision.
3What is an ARCUSdigma?
The ARCUSdigma is a three-dimensional temporomandibular joint diagnosis system we use to obtain full visualization of the actual movements of your masticatory system.

The mandible is measured in relation to the maxilla and the position of the maxilla to the base of the skull.

Benefits
Functional analysis Recording and documentation of 3D diagnostics The measured values support fabrication of the optimal dental restoration

Prophylaxis

1What is prophylaxis?
Prophylaxis ensures the prevention of and protection against dental and periodontal disease (caries and periodontitis).

What does prophylaxis involve?
Intensive removal of hard and soft plaque (with an ultrasonic cleaning device) Gentle removal of stains caused by coffee, tea, etc. (with the Air-Flow device) Final high gloss finish to smooth out the teeth Impregnation and sealing of the surface of the teeth (fluoridation) Consultation on proper oral care at home

The results
Long-term preservation of natural teeth, implants and prosthetic restorations.

How often should prophylaxis be performed?
Clinical studies have shown that prophylaxis at 6-month intervals makes sense.

It's worth it
Clean and healthy teeth feel good and have a positive effect on your personal and professional life.

Costs
Some of these services are not reimbursed by the statutory health insurance plans and must be paid for by the patients themselves.

Since prevention is more cost-effective and more convenient than undergoing any treatments resulting from negligent prophylaxis, we advise you to go in for prophylactic treatment regularly.
2What is airflow?
Air-Flow is a powder-spraying device used for removing dark deposits and stains on teeth (from coffee, tea, wine, cigarettes etc.).

Benefits
Air-Flow not only improves the appearance of the teeth, but also one's oral health. Bacterial deposits are also removed during the treatment. The tooth is cleaned and hardened, and the occurrence of new tartar is effectively delayed. The teeth feel smooth and clean after treatment.

Frequency of treatment
You should have the treatment conducted once or twice per year, depending on your oral hygiene.
3What is fluoridation?
The use of fluoride gels, lacquers, mouthwashes containing fluoride etc. for caries prophylaxis (prevention of dental caries) is known as fluoridation.

Fluoride protects against the effect of acids on the tooth enamel.

Bleaching

1What is bleaching?
Bleaching is a modern method that uses certain bleaching agents to whiten teeth for cosmetic reasons.

Why bleaching?
There are many causes for discoloration of the teeth. The most common include ageing, and the consumption of substances that stain the teeth, such as coffee, tea, colas, tobacco, red wine etc. The use of certain medicines may also cause the teeth to discolor. Such stains can be removed easily and painlessly with the help of bleaching. Teeth whitening will be more intensive in some patients than others. Nevertheless, we can determine the degree of whitening you could expect within a given time frame. Just ask us!

The results
Clean and healthy teeth contribute to greater self-confidence, as well as personal and professional success. A pearly-white smile gets you recognition and attention.

Note: 85% of all people wish they had whiter teeth!
Choose your bleaching method
At Palti Dental Center, you can choose between 2 different methods:

  • ZOOM by Philips
  • SMILE’ UP
2ZOOM - the "proven" bleaching method
What is Philips Zoom?
Philips Zoom is a proprietary whitening gel used in conjunction with a specially developed lamp. Thanks to this Philips Zoom LED accelerator, stains and discoloration are broken up and removed significantly more intensively despite shorter application.

Special features
  • Up to 8 shades of whiteness possible.
  • World market leader in light-activated teeth whitening

Treatment
  • Lips and gums are masked
  • A mild whitening gel is applied on the teeth
  • The teeth are exposed to the ZOOM lamp for 15 minutes.
  • Depending on the necessity and the desired degree of whiteness, this process can be repeated 3-4 times

Is the treatment safe?
Yes! Teeth whitening by Philips has been scientifically tested and clinical studies have shown that application under the supervision of a dentist is safe. The active ingredient (hydrogen peroxide) has been used for years in treatments in the mouth and throat.

Benefits
Philips ZOOM is a proven and clinically tested product. The duration of treatment is quite short.
3SMILE'UP - the affordable bleaching
What is SMILE'UP?
SMILE'UP is a cosmetic teeth bleaching method that uses a whitening gel.

Special features

  • Features 2 - 9 shades of whiteness
  • Short treatment time (45 minutes)
  • A special micro-foam reinforces the teeth and reduces the formation of new stains

The advantage
Low-cost variant, since treatment costs less than € 100. In addition, because its peroxide content is less than 0.1%, SMILE'UP is gentler and less aggressive than medical bleaching methods that have has as 30% peroxide.

Anesthesia and Anxiety treatment

1What is anesthesia?
Anesthesia is a process of switching off consciousness and/or the sensitivity to pain in a patient by administering an anesthetic agent to be able to perform surgery.

You can choose between 2 types of anesthesia:

  • General anesthesia (unconsciousness)
  • Analog sedation (consciousness maintained)
2What is general anesthesia?
During treatment under general anesthesia, patients "sleep through" the surgical intervention. One or more aesthetic agents are administered that work on the central nervous system. The patients lose consciousness and are in the restful state the dentist requires to concentrate on the work at hand.

General anesthesia is suitable for major interventions. It is always performed by a team of anesthesiologists who constantly monitoring of blood pressure, blood saturation, pulse and other functions over the entire course of the surgical procedure.

However:  anesthesia for treating patients with anxiety should be the exception rather than the rule.
3What is analog sedation?
Analog sedation is a drug-induced sleep-like condition. The patient is awake, calm and relaxed by the medicines.

This method is well suited for minor interventions or for those who are afraid of anesthesia.
4What is anxiety treatment?
We would like to eliminate your fear of the dentist!

Our friendly rooms impart a pleasant feeling of well-being. You additionally can have your treatments performed under analog sedation (a sleep-like state) or, optionally, general anesthesia.
Just ask us about these options.

We look forward to your visit.
